• The inception of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rae Bareli dates back to February 2009, when it was approved under Phase-II of Pradhan Mantri Sawasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). With an approved cost of Rs. 823 crore, the institution aimed to provide top-notch medical education and healthcare facilities.
• The journey towards its establishment was backed by the support of the State Government, which provided 148 acres of land. The Gazette Notification issued on 13th August 2013 marked a significant milestone for the establishment of AIIMS Rae Bareli. While 97 acres of land were transferred by the State Government for the establishment, an additional 51 acres was under acquisition. M/s HSCC (India) Ltd was appointed as the project management consultant, further streamlining the development process.
• The mentor Institute for AIIMS Rae Bareli is the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. This institute was granted autonomy and deemed to be of national importance through the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Act of 2013.
• The legacy of AIIMS Rae Bareli carries the spirit of its founder, Amrit Kaur, a freedom fighter and the princess of Kapurthala, who played a pivotal role in shaping the institution. The current Dean of the college is Prof. (Dr.) AK Singh continues to uphold the institution's values and commitments.
