About College

  • Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), is India’s premier medical institution under the Armed Forces.
  • Established in 1948, AFMC combines medical education with military healthcare training.
  • It is consistently ranked among India’s top medical colleges. 
  • AFMC provides undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and nursing, dental and paramedical training. Patient care is integral to the curriculum.
  • AFMC trains specialists and super specialists for the Armed Forces. It ensures high-quality care for Armed Forces personnel. 
  • Colonel PP Chowdry was AFMC’s first Commandant. Located on 119 acres in Pune, AFMC has 29 departments and dedicated faculty.
  • Classes, practicals, demos, and clinics run year-round with short breaks. Since 1966, over 6500 doctors have graduated from AFMC. 46 batches have served the nation well. 
  • The Nursing College was initiated in 1964 with 40 students selected through all-India exams. Over 1000 nurses have served the Military Nursing Services.

Lab

The college has a computer lab where students learn information technology. It also has a nutritional laboratory that teaches normal nutrition and therapeutic dietetics. The college also has a well-equipped nursing arts lab with simulation manikins and equipment to encourage learning of the art and science of nursing.

  • AFMC has a well-resourced Ashoka Chakra Library.
  • The library has a collection of over 50,000 books, including a vast number of medical literature.

Clinical rotations

The college provides clinical training to students in various departments of the affiliated hospitals. The students are exposed to different types of patients and health problems in rural and urban settings. Scholarship 

There are different types of scholarships available for Armed Forces Medical College, Pune students. Some of them are:

  • Scholarship for M.B.B.S and B.Sc. Nursing Students: The college offers this scholarship to eligible students who have secured admission to the MBBS and B.Sc. Nursing courses. The scholarship includes various allowances and the college's free education, food, and accommodation.
  • Stipend for Postgraduate Students: This is a stipend offered by the college to eligible students who have secured admission to the postgraduate courses. The stipend is around Rs. 97,000 for MD/MS students and Rs. 1,07,000 for DM/M.Ch students.
  • Stipend for Super Specialty Students: This is a stipend the college offers eligible students who have secured admission to the super specialty courses. The stipend is around Rs. 1,12,000 per month for DM/M.Ch students.
