About College

  • B.R.D. Medical College, located in Gorakhpur, started taking shape on November 8, 1969, when its foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, late Shri C.B. Gupta. The college was named after Baba Raghav Das, a dedicated freedom fighter and respected leader of this region.
  • This medical college was a significant addition to the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, also known as 'Purvanchal', as it brought advanced healthcare services to an area that needed them.
  • The first group of 50 students began their studies in August 1972. While the college building was being constructed, MBBS classes commenced on August 8, 1972, under the guidance of Professor P.L. Shukla, who served as the Founder Principal and Professor of Anatomy at Government Polytechnic College for about a year and a half.
  • Currently, the college is run by Dr. (Prof.) Ganesh Kumar, who is the Principal and Dean of the organization and holds both an M.B.B.S. and an M.D. in Radiology.
