About College

• Established in 2011, Diphu Medical College is a highly-reputed medical institute in the hill district of Diphu. Honourable Health Minister of Assam Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, laid the foundation stone of the college on 19th January 2011. The college was initially named Assam Hills Medical College and Research Institute. The college got its current name on 21st November 2019. Diphu Medical College is the seventh medical college of Assam.

• The word Diphu has been derived from the Dimasa language, where ‘Di’ means water and ‘Phu’ means white or silvery. History says that the streams in this district carried large amounts of sediments during the monsoon, which turned white.

• Prof.(Dr.) Sumitra Hagjer, MBBS, MS, is the Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of Diphu Medical College. The college started operations with its first batch of students in 2020. While it’s making rapid strides in the medical field to cater to students and patients, the institute is taking a holistic approach to enhance excellence in skill development and knowledge. The college is located in Baghmari, Diphu Dist, Karbi Anglong, Assam.

• Diphu Medical College was set up in a relatively remote part of Assam to cater to students from underprivileged sectors. The newly-developed college caters to patients with diverse ailments and offers 24/7 emergency service. It also has a Covid-19 wing and maintains all necessary precautions in an isolation ward.
