• The visionary behind the inception of Gajra Raja Medical College was Dr. Bhagwat Sahai, a prominent physician in Gwalior. Driven by a dream to establish a medical teaching and training center in the region, he garnered support from Shrimant Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia, the ruler of Gwalior.
• The college's foundation was laid With Rs. 20 lakhs from the Gajra Raja Memorial Trust and an additional donation from Shri G. D. Birla. Lord Wavell, the Viceroy of India, laid the cornerstone in 1945, and the college officially began its journey on August 1, 1946. Dr. A. K. Nigam is the dean of this college.
• The college's inaugural ceremony was graced by His Highness Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia, who named the institution in memory of his mother Matoshree Gajra Raja. Dr Bhagwat Sahai became the founder Principal, and the college's growth continued under the patronage of prominent leaders, including Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.
