About College

  • On 20 January 1991, the former Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Chandra Shekhar, laid the foundation stone in Sector 32 on 36.09 acres of land provided by the Chandigarh Administration. The construction on this college and hospital began in 1991. 
  • Meanwhile, the Government Medical College began operations from the Prayaas building in Sector 38 in Chandigarh, with the General facility in Sector 16 as an affiliated teaching facility. With a total annual intake of 132 students, it now offers postgraduate courses in Anaesthesia, Dermatology, General Surgery, Microbiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Ent, Paediatrics, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, Psychiatry Radiodiagnosis, Radiation Oncology, and Transfusion Medicine.
  • Postgraduate programmes will soon begin in the remaining subjects. As of the 2013–14 academic year, there are now 100 MBBS students being accepted each year. The number of MBBS students admitted each year has been increased to 150 as of the 2019–20 academic year.

  • Campus

The Government Medical College campus is situated in Chandigarh. The campus covers an area of 36 acres and offers a serene and peaceful environment.
