About College
- Government Medical College, Shahdol, popularly referred to as GMC Shahdol, is a newly established medical college situated in Shahdol, a scenic, hilly location interspersed with mixed forests located in the North‐Eastern part of Madhya Pradesh. In 2015, one of the ambitious projects of the Government of India’s ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasth Suraksha Yojana’(PMSSY) was to establish a district hospital in Shahdol to provide essential medical care to the underprivileged people of this predominantly tribal area.
- District Hospital Shahdol and its associated Government Medical College were among seven places chosen for the upliftment of the region by the ‘Pariyojana Samiksha Samitee’ of the state of Madhya Pradesh.
- Government Medical College (GMC), Shahdol, affiliated with Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, opened in 2019. The students and faculty are ably guided by the Dean and CEO, Dr. Milind Shiralkar, who is dedicated to producing competent medical graduates through a student-oriented medical curriculum.
- The establishment of a teaching hospital along with the college has successfully moved the student from being an observer to gaining active hands-on experience. Government Medical College (GMC), Shahdol, is the first of its kind to offer comprehensive health services to the local people who earlier only had access to basic health care. Priority is given to people with low incomes, as this college has a patient-focused approach to patient care, taking into consideration the patient’s story as a crucial part of the diagnosis and treatment process.
