About 

  • Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, is a prestigious medical institution with a rich history and a reputation for excellence in medical education. Founded in 1955, the college initially utilized the clinical facilities of the Government Wenlock Hospital and Government Lady Goschen Hospital. In 1961, the preclinical section was started in Mangalore.
  • Over the years, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, has become an independent unit with a hospital attached to the college - the KMC Hospital, Attavar - established in the late 90s. The hospital has more than five hundred beds and provides students with hands-on training in a real-world clinical setting.

The KMC Mangalore campus spans 31 acres and provides students with the greatest facilities for comfortable living. Among the facilities are:


Hostels: The institute has fifteen hostels on campus, with nine devoted to girls and six dedicated to guys. A completely air-conditioned library includes over ten thousand medical volumes and annually subscribes to over 350 publications.

Medical Education Unit: This unit provides orientation for interns, students, and postgraduates, as well as assistance with resource material for teaching instructors.

Laboratories: Clinical Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Pathology Laboratories are available at KMC Mangalore.

State Reference Laboratory: NACO has designated the microbiology laboratory as the State Reference Laboratory for HIV testing. 

The college also issues Eplite – which is published twice a year.


Clinical Rotations: students are interned at different affiliated hospitals for clinical rotations or in shifts as the case can be.

They are also asked to assist the doctors in actual surgical operations conducted by them.
