The Kazakh Medical University of Continuing Education has a rich history dating back to 1931. Sanzhar Dzhafarovich Asfendiyarov set up the Almaty Medical Institue in 1931. His contributions in setting up and expanding different deprartments were recognised by the government and the Kazakh Medical University was renamed as Asfendiyarov Kazakh Medical University. Shoranov Marat is the current rector of the university.
