About College

  • The foundation stone for Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) was laid on January 6, 2019, in the Kokrajhar district of Assam. Kokrajhar Medical College stands as the pioneering medical institution in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), located in the heart of the Bodoland headquarters, Kokrajhar. The expansion of medical education in this region is a step towards bridging the healthcare gap and improving the healthcare infrastructure for the entire state. 
  • The college was established on April 14, 2023, with a formal inauguration by the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi, who marked the occasion from AIIMS Guwahati virtually. Prof. (Dr.) Atul Ch. Baro, M.B.B.S., M.S., the college's Principal cum Chief Superintendent, has played an instrumental role in its establishment, while also leading the institution's functioning and growth.

Kokrajhar is situated in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in the Western part of Assam. A beautiful and rapidly growing town, Kokrajhar is surrounded by forests and hills and is well connected to the major cities of North-East and mainland India by railways and a four-lane National Highway. The nearest airport is Rupsi (65 kms from Kokrajhar) followed by Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati (225 kms away from Kokrajhar).

Fees

The annual fee structure includes Government fees (Admission, Tuition, and Examination Fees), institution fees (such as Student Welfare Fund, Library Fees, Union Fees, etc.), and hostel fees (including Mess Fees which are adjusted as per actual expenditure). The total annual fee is INR 47,300.

Scholarships

Currently, scholarships are not offered by the college. However, government-sponsored scholarships such as those based on merit or scholarships from the National Scholarship Portal are likely to be made available in the near future. 

Admissions 

  • In order to be admitted into Kokrajhar Medical College, candidates must appear for the NEET UG entrance exam conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). After the entrance exam, candidates must participate in the Assam NEET UG Counseling conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education, Assam. This is followed by seat allotment and document verification. Fee payment is the last step of the admission process.
  • The admission process for MBBS for the upcoming academic year (2023-24) is already underway. The results for the NEET 2023 were declared by the NTA on 13 June 2023. The online registration for the first round of Assam NEET UG Counseling was between 25-29 July and the result of the first round was declared on 4 August 2023.

The newly established Kokrajhar Medical College offers students excellent academic opportunities. The following are some of the advantages of the college:

  • Recognized by the National Medical Council, the college has qualified and knowledgeable faculty, as well as state-of-the-art infrastructure. Further additions to the infrastructure and campus are proposed and will be added soon. 

  • The 5-year MBBS program includes one year of internship where students will get to learn the applications of their studies and gain practical experience. A stipend is offered to students in the internship. 

  • Kokrajhar Medical College MBBS covers all the major subjects including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic & State Medicine, Community Medicine, Medicine, Surgery (which includes Orthopedics), Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology & Otorhinolaryngology.

While there are no disadvantages to the institution, it has yet to be ranked nationally as this is the first year of establishment.
