About College

  • One of the main provincial institutions, Kunming Medical University, was formerly a Medical Specialized Program of Donglu University established in 1933. It was established as a stand-alone medical education facility in 1956. It was one among the first institutions to be approved in 1981 to award master's degrees, and in 1998 it received approval to provide doctoral degrees. It was merged with Yunnan Medical College in 2010. It was given the new name Kunming Medical University in 2012, and it was one of the first institutions of higher learning to be included in the National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China. 
  • In recent years, KMU has built a number of scientific and technical innovation platforms that have been approved by the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Education. There have also been established a number of provincial important laboratories, engineering research centers, clinical medical research centers, international scientific and technical cooperation bases, and other innovation platforms. These scientific research platforms have played a significant role in the high-level scientific and technological innovation system of KMU, supporting the university's efforts to develop its scientific and technological talent and make significant contributions to the advancement of society and the economy. 
  • After years of growth, Kunming Medical University has developed a comprehensive system for developing medical talent that includes full-time higher education in medicine (undergraduates, postgraduates, and doctoral candidates), graduate medical education, continuing education, and education for international students.

2. How many affiliated and non affiliated hospitals are there in KMU?

The education and practice system consists of 76 vocational education and practice centers, 18 teaching hospitals, 45 training hospitals, 21 group practice education centers, and 4 affiliated hospitals. The 1st Affiliated Hospital and the 2nd Affiliated Hospital are both tertiary A-level general hospitals, and the 3rd Affiliated Hospital and the Stomatology Hospital are tertiary A-level specialized hospitals in oncology and stomatology, respectively. We are at the forefront of our field. These four partner hospitals offer a wide range of medical services.
