Orel State University Medical Institute

Overview

About College

  • Orel (Oryol) State University, Russia's first prestigious institution of higher learning incorporating I. S. Turgenev's name is the only multidisciplinary facility in the area that offers ongoing training for experts at all levels in pedagogy, engineering, medicine, and natural science, including humanitarian education.
  • During the First World War, Orel's intelligentsia developed the Ministry of Industry and Trade's 1916 initiative when it created a "commission for the organization of a people's university-polytechnic" in 1917. This was the first time that a higher education facility had been discussed in the city.
  • However, establishing a full-fledged state university in Orel with a traditional lineup of faculties can be traced back to 1919, when the Oryol State University was established by a decision made by the Collegium of Higher Educational Institutions of the People's Commissariat for Education on June 23. It seems possible that the university, which is a traditional university and the leading academic institution in the region, was established today.
  • OryolGTU was changed from an educational, scientific, and industrial facility to the State University by November 25, 2010, and then to the Prioksky State University in 2015.

  • The Government of the Russian Federation chose to build a Flagship University within the Oryol region that same year. As a result, the Flagship University "Oryol State University named after I.S. Turgenev," was founded on April 1, 2016.
