History & Location 

  • Patients from neighboring states such as Punjab and Rajasthan as well as Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh go to this tertiary care institution since it is the only major Institution for Medical Education and Research in Haryana.  In 1960, while it was still called Medical College.
  • Rohtak, the Institute was founded.  Medical College, Patiala served as the host institution for the first three years.  It is roughly 240 kilometres from the capital city of Chandigarh.
  • In 1995, Medical College, Rohtak became a Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences after being renamed Pt. B.D.Sharma, Medical College, Rohtak in 1994.  Medical education and patient care at Pt. B.D.Sharma, PGIMS, and Rohtak have made it a nationally and internationally renowned institution.

  • DR. S S Lohchab, the Institute's current Director, was selected for the position by the Government of Haryana. He carries out the Government's orders and responsibilities.
