• The college was established in 1986 by Sri R L Jalappa, an activist of the Cooperative movement in the state of Karnataka, as part of the Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust for Backward Classes.
• The college is located at Tamaka village, Kolar, and is spread over almost 100 acres of lush green campus. It is about 75 km away from Bangalore and the Bangalore International Airport.

• The college is a constituent college of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research (SDUAHER), which is a deemed university recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The college offers medical courses at undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD, MS), and postgraduate diploma levels and plans to start doctoral programs in Biochemistry, Microbiology, and fellowship programs.
