About College

• Established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna in May 2017, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati is an autonomous college. On May 26th, 2017, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the institute. The institute began the first academic year in January 2021, starting with 50 MBBS students, including 21 faculty members. This batch started its session on a temporary campus from Narakasur Hill-Top and expanded after joining a new MBBS batch in 2022. The new batch also had faculties from para-clinical, clinical specialty, and super-specialty departments.

• Prof. Babul Kumar Bezbaruah is the current president of the institute. He holds an MBBS degree and MD (Pharmacology) from Guwahati Medical College. He carries over 32 years of enriching experience in medical service, teaching, and research. His areas of specialization include Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Antimicrobials.

• Prof. Ashok Puranik has been serving as the Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati since July 2022. He was a former head of the Department of General Surgery and super-specialty Department of Trauma, emergency, plastic surgery, and gastrointestinal surgery. Prof. Puranik is a part of the alumni of the famous Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur. He also served in the Indian Army as a medical officer in 1985.
