The Government of the state, thus, has built a new medical facility in the Kumaun Hill district called the Soban Singh Jeena Government Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Almora with a capacity of 100 MBBS admissions per year.
• The institute is on two separate plots of property. The institute's Medical College site occupies 25 acres of land at Mouth-free Estate, Pandey Khola, next to Vikas Bhawan in Almora. Vikas Bhawan from State Highway is the route that a person takes to go to the Medical College. The 200-bed "Government Base Hospital Almora named Govardhan Tiwari'' is now being renovated to 500 beds and is the institute's affiliated teaching hospital.
